Terms and Definitions

Physiologic - Chemical makeup of the body's stored energy to facilitate muscular contraction. There are three types of energy systems: anaerobic (0 to 15 sec), lactate (10 to 120 sec) and aerobic (long term sustained movement).

Acceleration - The rate of the increase in the speed of a mass. For athletes, this can generally only be done for 6 -7 seconds.

Plyometric - Any exercise that enlists a stretch reflex of a muscle system. Generally there is greater stress applied to the eccentric phase of muscle contraction followed by a rapid change to concentric contraction generating greater force production.
